Cable TV Services Partly Restored, Problems Still Continue

Cable television services have been partly restored after North Goa collector Nila Mohanan issued a warning to multi-system operator (MSO) BRDS from Hubballi. However, hundreds of viewers are still staring at blank screens.

Services are yet to be restored in many areas such as Mandur, Old Goa and Marcela due to an alleged badly managed switch-over of services from the analogue mode to digital mode. The migration under Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2011, required installation of set top boxes (STB) by every consumer and completion of some formalities.

The authorities had to coax to form an association to put pressure on the MSO.”The BRDS episode should be treated as a wake-up call and things should be put in order,” said Roland Martins of GOACAN, a consumer network.
