Bharti Airtel is soon going to launch Airtel Xstream Smart Box for Digital TV customers which will deliver broadband along with full fledged entertainment.
Airtel CEO Gopal Mittal said this is going to be full fledged play delivering across multiple spaces. There have been some concerns about cable cutting in urban areas and metros for which we haven’t seen any evidence so far.

Xstream Smart Box will run on Android 9 Pie and broadcast Direct to Home (DTH), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Over The Top (OTT) content. The box, which is manufactured by Technicolor, comes with a 1.8 GHz Quad-Core CPU, a Broadcom VideoCore VHW (V3D-510) GPU and 2GB RAM with 8GB storage.
Reliance Jio is also providing broadband services on similar lines by launching GigaFiber.
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani today ( 12 August, 2019) announced in the Reliance Industries Annual General Meeting that the commercial launch of broadband services GigaFiber will be on 5 September, 2019.
Jio plans to give basic plan of 100 mbps at Rs. 700 per month including free voice unlimited call in India plus Premium OTT apps.
Free Set top box & Led TV will only be for JIO Premium Annual Plan Consumers. Jio has not yet mentioned delivery date of live TV channels via JIO Set Top Box.
