Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to launch mega GSAT-20 satellite which will provide the high speed internet of 100 Gbps or more to India’s rural and remote areas. With this new satellite launch rural India will soon have better broadband capability.

GSAT stands for Geosynchronous Satellites and GSAT-20 is a part of GSAT series satellites developed by ISRO. GSAT-20 is the second five-tonne class satellite after GSAT-11. It will be the second heaviest satellite built by ISRO.
Importance of GSAT-20:
1. GSAT-20 will provide high-speed internet in rural areas of India.
2. It is also expected to provide inflight internet connectivity.
3. The launch of GSAT-20 will help in the Government of India’s Digital India program.
4. It will give a boost to the high speed communication technologies of India.
GSAT-20 will be among the 32 missions planned by ISRO and will be the second heaviest satellite built by ISRO. The satellite will complete a constellation of satellites that use special transponders to beam high-frequency signals for better connectivity in the country. ISRO chairman K Sivan said that GSAT-20 is also expected to provide in-flight internet connectivity also.
