Policy Guidelines On Up & Down Linking For TV Channels

This Ministry  of Information & Broadcasting has given permissions to eligible entities for Uplinking & Downlinking of Pvt. Satellite TV Channels after consulting various Ministries / Departments of Government of India.

The process of permission is envisaged in the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking & Downlinking of Pvt Satellite TV Channels, 2011.

Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) has given a suggestion to the MIB regarding inclusion of TSPs in Downlinking guidelines in respect of “Mobile TV Platforms”.

Currently MSOs, CableTV / DTH / HITS Operators & IPTV service providers are allowed to distribute the registered TV channels in India as per following Downlinking Policy.

The applicant company shall provide Satellite TV Channel signal reception decoders only to MSOs / Cable Operators registered under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995 or to a DTH operators registered under the DTH guidelines issued by Government of India or to an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) Service Provider duly permitted under their existing Telcom License or authorized by Department of Telecommunications or to a HITS operator duly permitted under the policy guidelines for HITS operators issued by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India to provide such service.
