Indian Wiresless Subscribers To Touch 200 Crore by 2020

As per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Number of active wireless subscribers in  April, 2019 was 10,000 Lakhs in India.

Total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & LTE) increased from 9,000 Lakhs at the end of March 2019 to 10,000 Lakhs at the end of April 2019, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.04%.

The Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 6500 Lakhs at the end of March 2019 to 6700 Lakhs at the end of April 2019, however in rural area, it declined from 5100 Lakhs to 5000 Lakhs during the month. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscription were 0.29% and -0.27% respectively.

The number of telephone subscribers in India slightly increased from 10,100 Lakhs at the end of March 2019 to 10,111 Lakhs at the end of April 2019, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.02%.

The urban subscription increased from 6000 lakhs at the end of March 2019 to 6700 Lakhs at the end of April 2019, however the rural subscription declined from 5140 Lakhs to 5120 Lakhs during the same period. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscription were 0.25% and -0.28% respectively during the month of April 2019.

The overall Tele density in India slightly declined from 90.11 at the end of March 2019 to 90.05 at the end of April 2019. The Urban Tele density increased from 159.96 at the end of March 19 to 160.13 at the end of April  2019, however Rural Tele density declined from 57.47 at the end of March 2019 to 57.27 at the end of April 2019. The share of urban and rural subscribers in total number of telephone subscribers at the end of April 2019 was 56.67% and 43.33% respectively.

Delhi service area has maximum Tele density of 239.54 at the end of April 2019 & Bihar service area has minimum Tele density of 60.12 during the same period.
