As you are aware, TRAI notified the new regulatory framework for Broadcasting & Cable Services, comprising of the
i) Telecommunication (Broadcasting & Cable) Services (Eighth) (Addressable Systems) Tariff Order, 2017,
(ii) Telecommunication (Broadcasting & Cable ) services Interconnection (Addressable Systems) Regulations, 2017 and
(iii) Telecommunication (Broadcasting and Cable ) Services Standards of Quality of Service and Subscriber Protection (Addressable Systems) Regulations, 2017. And that the new regulatory framework has come into effect on 29th December, 2018.
TRAI gave time to subscribers / viewers to exercise the option till 31st January, 2019 to ensure smooth migration. The DPO’s (Distribution Platform Operators) have been intimated to migrate the subscribers / viewers as per their choice from 1st February, 2019.
It has been alleged that few DPO’s are dropping the channels from their platform selectively. In this regard, your attention is invited to TRAI direction dated 24th January, 2019. Wherein it was directed that all Broadcasters and DPO’s will comply with the new regulatory framework in its letter and spirit.
TRAI reiterates the same and directs all DPO’s to comply with the regulations in letter and spirit. Any violation shall be dealt in accordance with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Act, 1997.
