Google has now added support for Tamil language content in its targeted advertising platform Google AdWords and its monetisation platform Google AdSense. What this means is publishers and advertisers will now be able to target audiences with Tamil-language search and display ads. Content creators with websites or blogs in Tamil will also be able to monetize their content. AdWords and AdSense already supports Hindi and Bengali. Tamil Nadu had second highest number broadband connections in urban areas with 13.61 million at the end of September 2016, according to the data released by India’s telecom regulator TRAI.
Google said in its blog that India has about 234 million Indian language users who are online (compared to 175 million English web users) and it is expected that another 300 million Indian language users will come online in the next three years. Note that, Google has been focusing on its Next Billion Users team, and it is important for the company to add more Indic language capabilities, as the new Internet users in India predominantly interact with Indian language content.
