After making us wait for months, Jeep has finally announced the prices of the Compass today and formally launched it in India. The prices of the Jeep Compass start from Rs. 14.95 lakh and go up to Rs. 20.65 lakh. The Jeep Compass is be the most affordable model from Jeep in India and Jeep India MD, Kevin Flynn, too believes that it will the model that will generate a lot of volumes for the company in India. The Jeep Compass will be launched with a 2.0-litre turbo-charged diesel engine. There will be a 1.4-litre petrol engine on offer as well. Jeep has already started taking bookings of the Compass in India and will be exporting the same to other right-hand drive markets in the world such as Australia, Japan, and England etc. It is being manufactured at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility in Pune.
Jeep India had a slow start in India when they introduced the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler Unlimited in the country. That said, since these two models were CBUs (Completely Built-up Units), it was understandable that the price tag of the SUVs would be relatively higher. That said, at the launch of these two SUVs, the company also announced that they will be bringing in a locally assembled model soon. Today, the Jeep Compass, the carmaker’s first locally assembled SUV has launched which would also be exported to other RHD (Right Hand Drive) markets.
Assembled at the company’s Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra, the Compass would be offered with over 50 safety features and have three variants, Sport, Longitude and Limited. The Compass would initially come with a diesel as well as a petrol engine option, wherein the former would be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while the latter would have an automatic gearbox. For the all-wheel-drive variants, the Compass would have different terrain modes, Auto, Sand, Mud and Snow. The Compass would be offered in five colour options, Vocal White, Brilliant Black, Hydro Blue, Minimal Grey and Exotica Red.
